Prost!

Tomorrow, I’m off to Frankfurt, Germany, for die Frankfurter Buchmesse. In honor of my trip, I’d like to remind you of this guy: “Strool Peter.”

I now know how to correctly pronounce his name, which sounds more like “dur stroovelpaytah,” thanks to a) growing up, and b) going to Germany a buncha times. The author, Heinrich Hoffmann, was from Frankfurt; the (der) Struwwelpeter museum is there, and it is wunderbar.

Somewhere in my childhood, there was an English version of this deliciously horrifying children’s book, and I adored reading the stories of doomed little children who shouldn’t be playing with fire or cats and should be all-around neater and nicer.

And did I just have my hair cut and colored? And nails shaped and polished? Ja!

After reading a really nice obituary a few years ago, I considered what they'll write about me. "She worked all day, then went home and made supper." Except now, my husband has retired, so he makes the supper. Hm. I sound kinda lazy, but I'm always busy. You'll see. Part 2: I like my original About Me, so I'm keeping it intact. But now I, too, am footloose. Let's see what happens next, shall we? Part 3: Just to keep everything in perspective, I'm keeping parts 1 and 2 intact. Now, I am actively and happily NOT so footloose, doing my thing over at Cottage Door Press. And with it being off its training wheels, I will pick up my ginnygram pen again. Love!

    Have a great trip! As a child, I also adored stories that today would be considered to be about abusing little children.

    Bob never learned the traditional fairy tales. But Der Struwwelpeter? He is well acquainted with him. I wonder why he doesn’t like to read…
